Jasmin's Take: Elevating My Craft at Sassoon
Jasmin is back from London … and here’s everything you need to know!
If you know me, you know that I’m always looking to push my craft further. So when I had the opportunity to attend a course at the iconic House of Sassoon in London, I jumped at the chance!
Let me tell you—this experience was next level. It was humbling, inspiring, and challenging in ways I never expected. But most importantly, it reaffirmed something I deeply believe: the foundation of hairdressing is an art that must be preserved.
The Sassoon Standard: Discipline & Precision
Walking into the House of Sassoon felt like stepping into the birthplace of modern hairdressing—because, well, it is. Vidal Sassoon revolutionized the industry, and the legacy lives on in their training. Their approach is rooted in discipline and technique, and let me tell you, it’s intense.
The course was primarily focused on cutting—though I initially expected a mix of cut and color, the way it was taught made me see everything through a cutting lens. For my colleague, Lynn, it was a hands-on experience, as she had to demo cuts on live models while being observed and coached. I, on the other hand, took on a different challenge—I had to step back, observe, absorb, and practice patience. As someone who thrives on hands-on learning, it was a shift for me, but an invaluable one.
Rediscovering the Art & The Why
One of the biggest takeaways from my time at Sassoon?
Self-discipline. Not just in technique, but in mindset.
We live in a world of instant gratification—social media, branding, fast content, quick transformations. And while that has its place, it made me reflect: what is branding without a mastery of the classic arts? What’s the point of building a name for yourself if you don’t have the skill to back it up?
At Sassoon, there’s no cutting corners (pun intended). There’s no rushing through the process. There’s no “fake it till you make it.” It’s about dedication, control, and understanding that mastery takes time. That’s something I want to instill not only in myself but also in my team and the next generation of stylists.
One of the coolest parts? The international energy in the space. Sassoon attracts students from all over the world, and I got to connect with some of the most talented and passionate hairstylists. It was surreal to be surrounded by people who are equally obsessed with the craft, the precision, the artistry of hair.
The House of Sassoon itself is an experience—four floors dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. Two floors just for education, one for the salon, and the top floor for creative projects. It was mind-blowing to witness this level of dedication firsthand.
I had the incredible opportunity to learn from the best at House of Sassoon in London!
A whirlwind of creativity, precision, and inspiration. So grateful for the experience and I am excited to bring these new techniques back to the salon.
What’s Next?
I walked away from this experience feeling both challenged and inspired. It reminded me why I fell in love with hair in the first place, and why it’s so important to never stop learning.
Would I go back? Absolutely. In fact, I need to. There’s always more to absorb, refine, and explore.
If you’re a stylist looking to elevate your craft, let me tell you—get yourself to Sassoon. It will shake you, push you, and ultimately make you better. And isn’t that what it’s all about?
